The children brought home a cocoon yesterday. I meant to attach a note with it but forgot. They made the cocoons and they are ready to hatch today. I'm sure some of them couldn't wait! They painted pictures this week and I had them cut into butterflies and put them in the cocoons once they were finished. If they haven't opened them yet please talk with them about caterpillars and cocoons and enjoy the surprise with them!
Today we had a special guest come and speak to us, Daphne Pate. She spoke to us on swim safety so ask your children about staying safe around water!
Let me explain some of the pics on the slide show! Mrs. Kelly brought a real cocoon in our class to watch. Her daughter found it in their yard last month. Since nothing was happening with it we decided to cut it open to see what was inside. We think it's a type of moth.....after cutting it open we found that it was still in the pupal stage and definitely wasn't ready to hatch. We have placed it back in the box and will continue to watch it. ...and don't worry we taped it back up! (really).
